Sergei Diaghilev worked with many great composers for his ballets, distinguishing his ballets from other 19th-century ballets. He commissioned many original scores and borrowed freely from the existing musical canon. This concert is a potpourri of the most beloved of these works. Performed by Levine faculty artists Elisabeth Adkins, violin, Igor Zubkovsky, cello, and Anna Ouspenskaya, piano.
In recognition of Hillwood founder Marjorie Post’s philanthropic support of classical music and the museum’s comprehensive collection of Russian Imperial art, Levine and Hillwood will offer two performances featuring Russian composers during the 2012-13 season. This is the second performance.
