ELISABETH ADKINS (Violin)
DMA, MMA, MM, Yale University, BM University of North Texas. Associate concertmaster, National Symphony Orchestra, Concertmaster, Eclipse Chamber Orchestra. Violin faculty, University of Maryland and private studio. Chamber music with the Adkins String Ensemble and a duo with her husband, pianist Edward Newman.

MARINA ALEKSEYEVA (Piano)
BA & MM in Piano Performance, Chamber Music and Music Education at Russian State College and Novosibirsk State Conservatory. Taught at College Rimsky-Korsakov in St. Petersburg, Russia.

NAIRA BABAYAN (Piano)
Received her BA in Piano Performance from the Komitas National State Conservatory in Yerevan, Armenia and her MA in Piano Accompanying from the Gnessin Pedagogical Academy in Moscow, Russia. Dr. Babayan has taught at the Pedagogical University (Armenia) as Professor of Piano and at Trinity College London in Dubai, UAE. She has performed at the piano throughout Eastern Europe, Russia, the UAE and the United States, and has currently 2 CD recordings featuring native Armenian repertoire (Komitas/Khachaturian/Sayat-Nova), as well as Chopin, Liszt and Debussy.

MELINDA BAIRD (Piano, Associate Chair of Strathmore Campus)
DM, Indiana University (in candidacy). Studio assistant to MenahemPressler, Associate Instructor, Indiana University; faculty, IU Young Pianists Program. At Indiana was awarded Chancellor’s Fellowship and John Edwards Fellowship for outstanding service and leadership. MM and BM with Highest Honors, University of Colorado; awarded ‘Outstanding Graduate.’ Founding member, Jordania Trio, and Lambert Duo. Solo and chamber concerts in Israel, France, Germany, Austria, across the US and on both coasts. Co-founded Encore Arts Management, servicing publicity needs of classical musicians.

KAREN BARTMAN (Suzuki Piano)
Ph.D in Music Education, MA in Music History, and BA in Piano Performance. Dr. Bartman served on the Editorial Board of The American Music Teacher. She is a certified Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas and has taught Suzuki piano and Teacher trainer courses throughout the US.

CHRIS BATTISTONE (Trumpet)
BA in Jazz Education from North Texas State University. Performing credits include the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Danny Gatton Band, and Ron Holloway. Additional appearances with: James Moody, Harry Connick Jr., Nancy Wilson, Maureen Mc Govern, Jack Jones, Government Mule.

KATHLEEN BAVAAR (Voice)
BM from Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut; majored in voice. MM candidate in Voice Pedagogy at Westminster Choir College.  Kathleen has appeared in theater productions, and cabaret acts, that include Carnegie Hall, and the National Theater, and work with local orchestras.  Private teaching includes teaching piano for The Yamaha Music Education System.

JOYCE BENNETT (Suzuki Flute)
BA in Flute Performance from American University. Qualified to teach all levels of Suzuki. She has played with the Utah Symphony, the Pacific Palisades Symphony, and the West Valley Chamber Orchestra. She is also a certified Music Mind Games teacher and has taught flute and Music Mind Games at Suzuki Institutes in Utah, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, and Washington DC.

LEANDER BIEN (Piano)
Former faculty member of UMass/Amherst, Lehigh University and Moravian College. He has performed and given master classes throughout the US, in Europe and in Southeast Asia. He is the founder/director of the Kinhaven Piano Workshop in Vermont. His compositions are published by Mentor Music.

STEVE BRINEGAR (Horn, Wind Department Chair)
B.M. University of New Mexico. Studied at Yale Summer School of Music. Former member, Monumental Brass Quintet 1989-2002; performances at the Kennedy Center, Meyerhoff Hall; appearances with the New Mexico and Annapolis Symphonies, Honolulu Symphony and Ballet; Musici Americani, Sulmona Italy, summer 1986; member, US Naval Academy Band 1979-1989; former faculty, Anne Arundel Community College and former interim faculty, University of New Mexico.

RISA CARLSON (Classical Guitar, Guitar Department Chair)

WENYIN CHAN (Piano) DMA candidate in Piano Performance at Yale University School of Music, where she also earned her MM. She received her BM in Piano Performance from the Curtis Institute. Ms. Chan has performed as a soloist and chamber musician all over the United States and abroad, including such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Taiwan National Recital Hall. Ms. Chan has also been a prizewinner in many national and international competitions over the last decade.

JEFFREY CHAPPELL (Piano, Jazz Piano)
Has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America in recitals and with major symphony orchestras. He is also a recording artist and an award-winning composer. He graduated from Curtis Institute and Peabody Conservatory, and is Director of Jazz Studies at Goucher College.

CECILIA CHO (Piano)
Active performer and member of Potomac Trio and Fessenden Ensemble. Received education (BM, MM, DM ABD) from Peabody Conservatory and Indiana University with Ann Schein and Menahem Pressler. First prize winner of many competitions including the Aspen Music Festival Concerto Competition, Baltimore Symphony Soloists Audition, and National Winner of MTNA Baldwin Competition.

JACOB CLARK (Piano)
Originally from Houston Texas, pianist Jacob Clark joined the Levine faculty in the fall of 2006 after completing his BM, MM, and DMA at UT Austin. Recent competitions include being named a prizewinner in the 2004 Sidney Wright Accompanying Competition and the 2004 Janice K. Hodges Contemporary Piano Performance Award. Dr. Clark’s performance credits include recitals in Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Washington, DC.

REBECCA COLLAROS (Flute, Suzuki Flute)
MM in Flute Performance, Northwestern University; BM, in Flute Performance, The Ohio State University. Youngest Western flute graduate from the Talent Education Institute (Matsumoto, Japan). SETH COOK (Tuba)
M.M. McGill University, B.M. Northwestern University magna cum laude. Studied with Dennis Miller, Rex Martin, Warren Deck and John Manning. Two time winner of the American Brass Quintet Aspen Music Festival fellowship. Performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the National Philharmonic, members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the American Brass Quintet. Performances under Valery Gergiev, Fabio Luisi, Manfred Honeck, Peter Oundjian and Marvin Hamlisch.

SOPHIA KIM COOK (Early Childhood and Elementary Music, Accompanist)
M.Mus Piano Performance McGill University; B.Mus Honors Piano Performance McGill University; Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal. Orff Schulwerk Level I, George Mason University. Studied with Marina Mdivani, Richard Raymond, Kyoko Hashimoto, Andre Laplante, Lise Boucher for Solo Piano. Worked with Micheal McMahon, Stuart Hamilton, Kathleen Lohrenz Gable, Laura Lowen for Collaborative Piano. Winner Canadian Music Competition, Lakeshore Competition and the McGill University Concerto Competition, and, as an accompanist, finalist National Music Festival and semi-finalist Eckhardt-Gramattè Competition. Performed under the direction of Boris Brott, McGill Chamber Orchestra and Alexis Hauser, McGill University Symphony Orchestra. Along with her busy performing schedule, she headed the MMA (Mont-Royal Music Academy) Visual and Performing Arts Summer Camp for three years and taught students of all ages at numerous schools within Montreal.

Performances as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician throughout the Europe and South America. Co-founder, The Ensemble da Camera of Washington. First Concertmaster, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. Laureate, Indianapolis International Violin Competition.

BARBRO DAHLMAN (Piano)
Artist Diploma - Piano from Edsberg College, Stockholm, Sweden. BA with Honors - Piano from Royal Academy of Music, Stockholm. She has concertized throughout the United States, Canada, and in Europe. Has recorded for Opus One, Orion, BIS, Phono Suecia, Spectrum and CRI. Faculty member, George Washington University.

MONICA DALE (Dalcroze Studies, MusiKinesis)
(M.M. Piano Performance, Ithaca College; B.A., Connecticut College; Jaques-Dalcroze License) is a proponent of Jaques-Dalcroze Eurhythmics and founder of MusiKinesis, a contemporary American approach to the traditional European method. Her professional dance background brings a unique dimension to her work in music. She's published six books and numerous articles, and has presented workshops and courses for schools and organizations nationwide. ALICIA DAY-JAVKHLAN (Suzuki cello)
Earned her BM in Cello from California State University, Long Beach, and is continuing her Suzuki method training under the tutelage of Levine faculty member Alice Vierra. Ms. Day-Javkhlan has been the principal cellist with the CSU, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as an Orchestra Director and Strings Teacher in several public-school settings, has taught cello at Levine's own Music and Arts Day Camp, and has maintained a private teaching studio for over ten years.

MATTHEW DIEVENDORF (Guitar)
BFA, University of Michigan. Featured guitarist accompanying Joan Morris 'Nurse's Song,’ a track on the 2005 Grammy-winning (Best Classical Performance) 'Songs of Innocence and of Experience'. Performances with Hank Jones, Donald Walden, and Count Basie Orchestra as guitarist in the University of Michigan Jazz Ensemble. Guitarist US Marine Band Parris Island, 1998-2001.

ELLEN DOOLEY (Flute)
Graduate of the Peabody Institute and Carnegie Mellon University. Current member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Former professor of flute at Elizabethtown College and performed in educational outreach programs for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Choral Arts Society of Washington.

DANIELLE DOTSON (Suzuki piano)
Earned her Australian Licentiate of Music in Piano in 1990. Additionally, she holds an MA in Education from George Washington University and expects to complete her Certificate IV VETAB in Suzuki Method (piano) in 2008. Ms. Dotson spent almost 18 years in Sydney, Australia playing viola, violin and piano in various ensembles, duos and quartets, and was extensively involved in the Suzuki community there. Furthermore, she spent two years in Japan where she taught piano privately.

EDDIE DRENNON (Jazz Violin)
Member of the Umoja String Quartet. Studied violin at Howard University; previously studied with Samuel Applebaum and Ugo Carano. As a featured soloist with the Bo Diddley Blues Band and Orquesta Novel, he performed in Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, North and South America. Eddie has recorded with various artists including Ike & Tina Turner, La India, Ray Barretto, Buster Williams and SOJA.

YOULEE DZIUK (ECEM Teacher, ECEM Program Coordinator)
Youlee was selected to participate in Levine’s ECEM internship program in 2006. BA in Piano Performance from George Mason University (December 2007); Orff Schulwerk Level I, George Mason University. She currently runs her own piano studio, teaches for Levine and provides office support for the ECEM Department. She has performed in numerous recitals and concerts including Honors Recital and Jeffrey Siegel’s Piano Master Class at GMU.

a Russian born pianist, was educated in the fusion of Russian and American musical cultures. BRIAN FRYE (Metropolitan Winds)
BM in Music Education from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA, with an emphasis on euphonium. Currently, he is a Music Educator at Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, D.C. His ensembles have participated in several competitions, receiving superior ratings and first place recognition. In addition to performing regularly, Brian has worked with numerous musical theater productions in PA, WV and MD as guest conductor or musical director.

MARTIN GENDELMAN (Music Theory and History)
The music of composer Martín Gendelman has been performed in the United States, Europe, and South America, and has been the subject of various academic lectures, in both Italy and Argentina. As and educator, he has taught at several institutions in the metropolitan areas of Baltimore and Washington DC, including the University of Maryland, Towson University, The Catholic University of America, and the Levine School of Music. A veteran audio professional working in the Washington DC area since 1991. Owner and founder of All Access Audio, Inc., a full service audio recording and production company in Silver Spring, MD. Ms. Gerber's specialty is recording and producing all forms of acoustic music.

PEPE GONZALEZ (String Bass)
Has studied classical, jazz, and Afro-Caribbean styles for over 30 years. Performing largely within the jazz and Afro-Caribbean idioms, he has performed with many of the top national and international icons in the jazz world. Pepe has played many jazz festivals in the Caribbean, Europe, South America, United States, and on numerous recordings.

SVETLANA GORENMAN (Piano)
DMA & MM in Piano Performance from Almaty Conservatory, Kazakhstan; BM in Piano Performance, Odessa Music College. Professor at Kazakh State Conservatory for 25 years. Toured throughout eastern Russian as a member of The Shostakovich Trio. Former faculty member of the California Music Institute.

HAE SOON HAHN (Violin)
MM and BM, Violin Performance - Juilliard School. Performed with Korean National Symphony, Eastern Concert Symphony, Washington Chamber Symphony, Washington Music Ensemble. Recitals at Supreme Court, Lincoln Center, Corcoran Gallery.

NANCY HALLSTED (Piano)
Degrees in Piano, (Perry Beach and Stewart Gordon principal teachers) and Music History and Literature from the University of Southern California. At USC, studied with harpsichordist Alice Ehlers and vocal accompaniment with Gwendolyn Koldofsky. She has been a participant and presenter in various international Piano Pedagogy Workshops in Europe, Hawaii, Canada and Australia, where she coached chamber and piano ensemble with Jean Barr.

JIYON HAN (Piano)
MA, Ed.M in Music Education at Teachers College at Columbia University, NYC. BM in Piano Performance and BA in Music Theory at Mannes College of Music, NYC. KRYSTA HAWKLEY (Piano)
BA in Music, Goshen College (Indiana); M.M. in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, Westminster Choir College of Rider University (New Jersey). Krysta has taught at the Community Music Schools of Goshen and Westminster. She has performed with the Goshen College Orchestra, and has participated in masterclasses by Chiu-Ling Lin, William Westney, and John Ellis.

Protege of legendary pianist Claudio Arrau. Won international critical acclaim for her performances in London, Berlin, Rome, New York and Latin America, including her native Chile, during the 1970s-80s. She is the Artistic Director of the In Series, a DC presenter of innovative opera and cabaret productions.

Professor of Clarinet at George Mason University. Former member of the U.S. Air Force Band. Degrees from Florida State University, Baylor University, and the Catholic University of America. Seven published articles in The Instrumentalist. Solo performance at the 2008 International Clarinet Association ClariFest.

During his tenure, the Swanson bands have grown from approximately 60 instrumental students to an average of 184 instrumental students.

RACHEL NOYES (Suzuki Violin) Recently completed her MM in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Maryland and earned a BM (cum laude) in Violin Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Ms. Noyes is trained through Book VII of the Suzuki method. Along with teaching Suzuki violin and being a member of several chamber groups, she has performed in several east coast orchestras, including as co-concertmaster with the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra.

Has taught music at Carolina Friends, Georgetown Day, Sidwell Friends and Sandy Spring Friends Schools and was Levine’s first Early Childhood Music Department Chairperson, in addition to initiating the Levine School Music and Arts Day Camp. Presenter at local, state, and national music education conferences. Currently serves as a resource for Levine’s Early Childhood Music Department, provides the music programs for the preschool and the Children’s Inn at NIH, and writes a series of articles for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association Greater D.C. PETER SIROTIN (Violin)
Ukrainian-born violinist Peter Sirotin has received his education at Moscow State Conservatory and Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. He is a founding member of the Mendelssohn piano trio, ensemble-in-residence with the Embassy Series in Washington and at Messiah College in PA. With this group Mr. Sirotin has toured internationally and recorded several CDs for Centaur Records.

As a visiting artist at International Festivals, Tracy Anne Smith has performed in solo recitals, taught Masterclasses and served as a Competition jury member. She has played for such luminaries as Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Leo Brouwer. Currently, Tracy is completing a DMA degree at Peabody, building on a Master’s Degree from Yale, and an Undergraduate degree from University of Toronto.
