All For a Song

Session II of “All for a Song” is full.  Students may apply to be on the waiting list.

What use is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play! Only this time, the music is YOU! All adults will enjoy this workshop designed to awaken the soloist in everyone. Each participant will have the opportunity to work along side seasoned cabaret artist, Lisa Shaw on how to choose, learn and “sell” the perfect song.

All That Jazz Week

This program is a great way to learn what jazz is all about! It's a perfect introduction for students looking toward their high-school jazz programs, or who are just curious about the nature of jazz. Spend a week learning the basics of improvisation and studying with members of Levine's stellar jazz faculty.

Electric Guitar Intensive

Experience the electric guitar with Levine's outstanding electric guitar faculty! This program is offered in two divisions to accommodate students' different experience levels. Each evening, the two groups combine to work and learn together.

Choose the session that's right for you

Novice
Appropriate for the absolute beginner. Each day includes a one-hour group class and a one-hour workshop. The group class covers the fundamentals of electric guitar technique and music reading.

Advancing
Hone your electric guitar technique and advancing skills in this 2-hour intensive class. Appropriate for students with one year of guitar lessons or the equivalent. Each day includes a one-hour workshop followed by a one-hour group class. The group class covers advancing electric guitar techniques, theory, improvisation and performance skills.

Fiddle Camp

Come learn a variety of fun fiddle and jazz tunes! Each day, students will play these tunes together as an ensemble. They will also have the opportunity to play solos, learn how to improvise, and learn how to play “back-up” (accompaniment). At the end of the week, the students will perform their pieces at an outdoor picnic concert.

Levine School of Rock

The 2010 Levine School of Rock has been cancelled.

Rock! Blues! R&B! You play it and we’ll teach you to play it better! The program is open to pre-existing bands and individuals who would like to learn ensemble skills, instrumental and vocal skills, and recording studio techniques. You will get a chance to experience a state-of-the-art recording studio, and you’ll have your own CD at the end of the workshop!

MusiKinesis™ for educators

MusiKinesis™ broke ground with the Eurhythmics for Young Children book series, putting the traditional Dalcroze philosophy into modern, practical terms. Now teachers can learn more about the MusiKinesis™ approach through hands-on study with its author, Monica Dale. The three branches of the Dalcroze approach rhythmic movement, solfege, and improvisation are interwoven through MusiKinesis™. Teachers will gain a wealth of specific activities, rhythmic movement exercises, songs, and stories, along with a great dose of creative inspiration! Children love MusiKinesis™ so will you!

Saxophone at the Strathmore

Dedicated to the specific needs of saxophonists in grades 6 - 12, Levine School of Music's Summer Saxophone Camp has become an important event for musicians throughout the DC metropolitan area. Take part in an all-intensive week of individual instruction, chamber music, and large saxophone ensembles, culminating in a Friday student performance at The Music Center at Strathmore.

String Camp and Strings Plus

STRING CAMP
Join us for a week filled with musical discoveries! Now in its 15th season, Levine’s String Camp is a great opportunity for violinists, violists and cellists to make music in a fun environment. The curriculum is designed to broaden a student’s musical experience and reinforce individual development. Campers have the opportunity to work with some of the area’s leading professional musicians. All participants perform in a closing concert on Friday afternoon.

STRINGS PLUS
Strings Plus is both an extension and expansion of the String Camp. Open to advanced string players, pianists and guitarists, this program concentrates specifically on developing chamber music skills, repertoire and performance techniques.

Daily activites include chamber music coaching, practice period, sight-reading and stretching for musicians.

A second in person audition date is now open at Levine’s NW DC Campus at 2801 Upton Street, NW, Washington, DC 20008 on Saturday, May 15, 2010.  Please call 202-686-8000 ext. 0 to schedule your audition.
